I've seen ads on Craigslist of daycare homes that haven't met the requirements for swingset/anchored toys requirements as set by Kansas regulations. So, I wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of the requirements for anchored toys/swingsets.

  • Every piece of anchored equipment (including swingsets) must have appropriate ground cover. These meet the requirements:
    • Sand
    • Woodchips (finely ground)
    • Pea gravel
    • Rubber
  • However, you have to have this ground cover in the fall zone--not just under the equipment. To determine your fall zone, do this:
    • Stretch out your swing--the cover must reach all the way both forwards and backwards
    • Look at your slide--you must have cover for falling backwards off the slide or falling off the front (I would think that you would need cover on the side of the slide as well.)
